finally! teaching

What I enjoyed about this unit as a student was the fact that It gave me different ways of learning storytelling. Each group had their own way of doing so. What I learned as a student was I like being in control of my stories. I don’t enjoy other people finishing them. I also learned that I prefer non-fiction compared to fiction because I can add more emotions to it.

What I enjoyed about this unit as a teacher was that I was finally able to apply what I had been learning to do for the past 10 weeks. I actually got a taste of what I want to do with my life. What I learned about myself as a teacher is that I am very hands on. I can’t just sit back and let things happen. It is something I will need to work on a little bit.

I think storytelling is viable in school teaching because we all use it. Everyday, whether its telling a long time family happening, children’s book to our kids, or just what we ate for dinner the previous night, we story tell. I believe it is important to learn at a young age when the mind is most creative (in my opinion).

  1. Yes I agree that story telling pervades all of our lives, and for that reason it should be central to the teaching of writing. Even a research paper tells a story, and if students understood the relationship between the different writing genres as nothing more than the relationship between different types of stories they might enjoy writing more.
